About Angkor 2021 – Independent Travels

Angkor is a Dream

Angkor is marvellous. Now, the deserted temples are enchanting, and cycling there is dreamlike.
The best way to visit Angkor is by yourself and if possible by bike, mountain bike or e-bike.

Travelling on your own

That is how I did it 20 years ago (when I was 62). I explored Angkor by driving along roads and trails and when I came to a temple, I took my time.
When I was 80, I was no longer riding alone, sat on a mountain bike, had mineral water with me and took even more time.

Guidance for independent travelling

Now, I am 82 and no longer on bike. Time to pass on my experience.
Be your own guide. Here is all you need for it.
The Angkor Map
It is important to have a smart map for an overview and orientation.
Look on the Angkor Map and find Prasat Kravan. To find the way from there to Prasat Bat Chum you may ask a local: “Som, prasat?” (“Please, where is the temple?”)
You will get a printout of the Angkor Map in A3 with the Introduction Talk.
A Dream of Angkor E-Book
I have written down in manual what I would have wanted to know when I first visited the temples: a book that comprehensively presents the temples in their original context. As the traveller will only see what he or she knows, the book is comprehensive.
Besides, Mythology is essential for understanding Angkor.
Angkor Temple Tales E-Book
The journey is the destination, thus I have put together all the stories and odds that did not find a place in the manual.

A website for a new style of travelling

After the bankruptcy of Thomas Cook and the corona epidemic, Angkor tourism is at zero.
Time to think about non-tourist travels: independent, individual, leisurely, close to the country and sustainable, i.e. preferably by two-wheeler.

Focus on Angkor

Take your time for Angkor: Angkor is worth a vacation trip.
Book a return flight to Siem Reap.
Book the hotel individually and flexibly with an open end.

Independent Travelling to Angkor needs publicity

I do not feel like an adventurer at all, but I have travelled to many Asian countries on my own. Angkor could even become a paradise for independent travellers.
Still, Google does not know anything about independent travels.
Now I am urgently looking for authors and journalists who want to write something about it.
Your feedback is also welcome.
Please pass this on!
